| Connecticut Coalition to Save Darfur |
The Honorable William J. Clinton
55 W. 125th Street
New York NY 10027
Dear President Clinton:
We are appealing to you because we are of the opinion that you would be a key figure in helping to stop the killing and destruction that continues to occur in the Darfur region of Sudan.
While our present Administration has declared the situation there to be a genocide, there has been too little done to persuade the Bashir government to stop the Janjaweed from continuing their murderous acts and violence. We need an American voice on the side of peace and reconciliation and we trust that you could be that voice. We are asking that you consider making a peace trip to Sudan to deliver that message. As an added force for the call to stop the killings, we suggest that Nelson Mandela accompany you to offer his own uniquely special persuasion.
With the present situation of Darfur being so prominent in the world media, with the added crisis of the attacks by the Janjaweed into Chad and the desperate situation of the Darfurian people, we implore you to take action to help before we, once again, are confronted by our own humiliation and regret for remaining silent and passive. There is so little time before an entire people are annihilated.
